Game Design and Development at PLAY NYC

On August 11th and 12th Game Design & Development will showcase two games created by two teams of recent graduates at PLAY NYC at the Manhattan Center in New York City. Ryan O’Hara, Andy Mechalakos and Drew Osik will show AstroViking, recently launched on STEAM. Ryan O’Hara has won numerous awards for his previous game TimeTekker at RPI’s GameFest, the New England Game Design Student Showcase and the Terminus Festival. Dishonor Thy Neighbor, will be presented by alums Khaled Abu-Gazaleh and Matt Hodges. Dishonor Thy Neighbor was previously presented at PAX East 2018 and won Best Multiplayer at RPI’s GameFest 2018.

With over 5,000 attendees, PLAY NYC is in its second year and featured over 100 developers. Produced by Playcrafting, it is the premier event showcasing independent developers and game studios in the tri-state area. This is the second year that Game Design & Development has been an exhibitor. GDD’s participation is made possible by the generous support of the Office of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Zohar Kefir: Testimony

Zohar Kfir will present Testimony, a VR documentary telling the stories of five rape survivors. Testimony premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2017. Her talk will be held in the Mount Carmel Auditorium. Six Gear headsets will be available so attendees can experience Testimony directly in VR.

Kevin Allen: Secrets of a Late-Blooming Entrepreneur: How Emotional Intelligence Drives Entrepreneurship

Global Game Jam 2018

For the fifth year in a row, Quinnipiac University will be an official site for the annual Global Game Jam. The event starts at 5pm Friday January 26th, when this year's theme will be revealed. The lab will be open all weekend. Jammers will gather on Sunday at 3pm and informally share their creations.

This event is open to the community. All are welcome!

Global Game Jam 2017

Nick Fortugno: Games For Impact

Nick Fortugno, chief creative officer of Playmatics in New York and founder of the Come Out and Play Festival, will discuss the apps he has developed as well as how he guides the creative vision of Playmatics, when he lectures at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 4, in the Mount Carmel Auditorium at Quinnipiac University. This event is free and open to the public.

Fortugno is a recognized game designer worldwide who has created mobile game titles for AMC’s “Breaking Bad” and “The Walking Dead.” He also was the leading designer for the blockbuster hit mobile game Diner Dash.

Playmatics is an award winning game design company that focuses on merging story and interactive experiences through digital and real-world contexts.
